According to a new study conducted by British scientists children whose mothers gained a lot of extra pounds during pregnancy are at high risk of obesity and cardiovascular diseases.

The study involved nearly 7000 pregnant women and their children under 9 years of age. It was found that children whose mothers gained more than recommended extra pound were at higher risk of high blood pressure. Moreover, these children were at high risk of overweight and hypercholesterolemia - condition that predisposes to atherosclerosis.

Of course each women gets extra pounds during pregnancy and that is normal. The question is in maintaining of normal limits of body weight. The control is body weight during pregnancy is necessary  because many extra pounds negatively affects child's health. The normal weight gain for women with normal body mass is 10-16 kg, for women with obesity - 7-11kg, for women with insufficient body weight 12-18kg.
