Lamisil 250mg (terbinafine) works by specifically inhibiting the biosynthesis of sterols at early stage (sterols) in the fungal cells, leading to a deficiency of ergosterol (ergosterol), following accumulation of intracellular squalene, and finally cell death of the fungus.
Lamisil possesses a broad spectrum of action against fungi causing diseases of the skin, hair and nails, including dermatophytes such as Trichophyton (T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. tonsurans, T. violaceum), Microsporum (M.canis), Epidermophyton floccosum, yeasts and fungi of the genus Candida (C. albicans) and certain dimorphic fungi Pityrosporum (P.orbiculare/Malassezia furfur).
Lamisil has a fungicidal action against dermatophytes, molds and certain dimorphic fungi. The activity of terbinafine against yeasts, depending on their type, may be fungicidal or fungistatic.
