Active indredint: Rabeprazole
Aciphex generic (rabeprazole) Aciphex is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of "stomach" medications called proton pump inhibitors. It is used to treat conditions associated with increased production of stomach acid (hyperacidity): stomach and duodenal ulcers including associated with Helicobacter pylori, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison. Generic Aciphex is made by well-known pharmaceutical company Intas under the commercial name Rabium.
Generic Aciphex is an antiulcer drug that belongs to a group of proton pump inhibitors, a specific inhibitor of H + / K + ATPase. The active ingredient of the drug Rabium is rabeprazole sodium - a weak base which rapidly accumulates in the acidic environment of gastric parietal cells and metabolized to active sulfonamide derivatives that inactivate the enzyme H+/K+ATPase. Rabeprazole blocks the final stage of hydrochloric acid secretion, reducing the content of basal and stimulated secretion, regardless of the nature of the stimulus. Rapeprazole possesses a high lipophilicity, easily penetrates the parietal cells of the stomach and is concentrated in them, providing protective effect and increasing the secretion of bicarbonate.
Antisecretory effect of Rabeprazole sodium after oral administration occurs within 1 h and reaches a maximum after 2-4 h Rabeprazole generic does not affect the function of central, cardiovascular and respiratory systems as well as thyroid function, carbohydrate metabolism, blood concentrations of parathyroid hormone, cortisol, estrogen, testosterone, prolactin , cholecystokinin, secretin, glucagon, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, renin, aldosterone and growth hormone.
Rabeprazole is rabidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood stream and reaches C max in 3.5 hours Bioavailability is 52%. Rabeprazole sodium is metabolized in the liver involving the cytochrome P450 isoenzymes (CYP2C9 and CYP3A). Plasma protein binding is 97%. Half-life period is 0.7-1.5 hours, approximately 90% of this dose is excreted with urine mostly in the form of two metabolites.
Rabeprazole is used for the treatment of the following conditions:
- Acute stage of stomach and duodenal ulcer
- Stomach and duodenal ulcer associated with Helicobacter pylori
- Stress ulcers
- Gastroesophageal reflux
- Reflux esophagitis
Rabeprazole sodium is taken orally before meal, usually once daily in the morning on an empty stomach. Tablets are taken with a glass of water, swallowing whole without chewing.
- Individual intolerance (including hypersensitivity in anamnesis)
- Severe kidney diseases (renal failure)
Rabeprazole sodium belongs to a pregnancy category B. This means that there are not sufficient data confirming the safety use of Rabeprazole generic in pregnant women. Make sure to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. There are no known if the medication passes through breast milk therefore the application of generic Rapeprazole during breastfeeding should be avoided.
Rabeprazole is well tolerated medicines with the low frequency of side effects. Possible Rabeprazole sodium side effects include: Digestive system: diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation, rarely - anorexia, in rare cases - elevated level of liver transaminases.
- CNS: headache, fatigue, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness.
- Hematopoietic system: rarely - thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, leukopenia.
- Dermatologic reactions: skin rash.
- Allergic reactions: seldom - facial edema, dyspnea, erythema, bullous eruption Hematopoietic system: rarely - thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, leukopenia, leukocytosis.
- Other: back pain, flu-like syndrome, myalgia, arthralgia, rarely - decreased appetite, weight gain, depression, impaired vision or taste, stomatitis, increased sweating. Among these rabeprazole sodium side effects the most common are: headache, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, sore throat, constipation, flatulence.
How rabeprazole may interact with other medicines?
As rabeprazole is metabolized in the liver by microsomal hepatic enzymes cytochrome P450 2C19 and 3A, the medication can interact with medicines which also act on cytochrome P450. Rabeprazole may interact with: atazanavir (protease inhibitor), clopidogrel and warfarin (blood thinner), immunosuppressor (cyclosporine), digoxin (cardiac glycoside), iron containing drugs and supplements, ketoconazole (antifungal remedy).
Rabeprazole sodium should be stored in temperature not higher than 25°C. Do not store the medication in the refrigerator.
