Acne treatment Nowadays millions of people suffer from different skin diseases. These may be dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and of course acne. Acne is one of the most widespread disease on Earth. Most people think that acne is a temporary condition that passes with age. But actually it is a serious skin disease that needs to be treated.  If acne is not treated it can lead to many unpleasant complications. Acne is an illness of oil glands. Skin contains pores (narrow holes) that connect to oily glands through specific canals called follicles. Sometimes these follicles are clogged up with dead cells and sebum(oily substance produced by oily glands) then skin inflammation occurs. This inflammation is manifested with pimple (or zits) that appear on the skin surface. Pimples are usually found on the place where there are oily glands: face, hands, shoulders, chest and back. All the pimples can be divided into six common types: papules, pustules, nodules, cysts, blackheads and whiteheads. What   are the main causes of acne is not know. There are many suppositions for probable causes of acne as an example, hormonal change during the teenage years or pregnancy. Some types of medicines (birth control drugs) may also contribute to acne. It is noticed that if parents had acne for a long time, their children have a high risk of suffering from this disease too.  Meaning that heredity also plays an important role.

The main aim in the acne treatment must include: treatment of existing lesion, prevention of new lesions forming and of course reducing psychological stress caused by acne. Some OTC(over-the-counter)creams and lotions can help only in mild cases of acne. If these do not work your health care provider may recommend you more effective acne treatment. These may be Zineryt lotion or some creams that contain salicylic acid, sulfur, resorcinol or benzoyl peroxide. Also some antibiotic pills or retinoic acid are effective against moderate types of acne. However these medicines can increase your skin sensitivity and you will have to stay in the shade or wear sunscreen. Severe acne usually develops when mild or moderate forms are not treated. This condition is manifested with redness, deep cysts, swelling or scarring. In that case your doctor must prescribe you some strong oral antibiotics or Roaccutane (isotretionin). Roaccutane shows great effectiveness in treatment of severe acne. Isotretionin is a derivate from vitamin A that reduces the activity and size and activity of oil glands. As a result the amount of sebum is decreased. This stops the oily glands becoming clogged up and inflammation is impaired. The acne treatment with Roaccutane should be under your health care provider control as this drug has some severe side effects such as birth defects, changes in the blood and liver, mental disorders. You should not be pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking this medicine.

In some cases your dermatologist may recommend you laser procedures. They can decrease redness and reshape the scars. Other surgery methods can include photodynamic therapy and dermabrasion. All these procedures give possible positive long-term results but they are very expensive.

People who suffer from this disease should understand that good acne skin care may help minimize  or even prevent the scars. Acne skin care should include: avoiding a suntan or sunburn,   carefully cleaning and handling with the skin and shaving gently. People who touch frequent their pimples or even pinch or squeeze them have a risk of scar developing.

If you have noticed first signs and symptoms of acne you should not wait and try to begin the treatment as soon as possible. Opportune treatment can help you avoid many severe consequences.
