What is Triderm?

Structure and Composition:
1 g of Triderm cream contains: betamethasone (betamethasone dipropionate) 500 mcg (0.05%), clotrimazole 10 mg and gentamicin (gentamicin sulfate) 1 mg.
How does Triderm cream work?
Triderm cream is a combined preparation for use in dermatology. After application it exerts anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and antipruritic effects associated with betamethasone, antifungal - with clotrimazole and antibacterial activity caused by gentamicin.
Betamethasone dipropionate is a synthetic corticosteroid (SCS). It possesses a potent vasoconstrictive and anti-inflammatory effect. Bethametasome is characterized by a rapid and prolonged anti-inflammatory action.
Clotrimazole possesses antifungal effect (inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol in the cell membrane of fungi). Clotrimazole is effective in the treatment of dermatomycoses such as Tinea redis, Tinea ciuris, Tinea corporis, caused by Trichophyton rlibrum, Trichophyton mentagrophyles, Epidermophyton floccosum and Microsporum canis; candidiasis caused Sandida albicans; Tinea versicolar (pityriasis stripping), caused by Malassezia furtur (Pitysporum obiculare).
Gentamicin is broad-spectrum antibiotic that belongs to aminoglycoside group of antibiotics. It exerts bactericidal effect and is highly effective in local treatment of primary and secondary bacterial infections of the skin. Gentamicin is effective against susceptible strains of Streptococcus spp. (Strains of beta-and alpha-hemolytic streptococcus group A), Staphylococcus aureus (coagulase positive and coagulase-negative, and some strains producing penicillinase) and Gram-negative bacteria: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae .
When Triderm cream is prescribed?
Triderm cream 15g is used to reduce the inflammation associated with different types of dermatosis, complicated by secondary infection caused by microorganisms and fungi that are sensitive to the ingredients:
- Various forms of bacterially infected eczema
- Athlete's foot;
- Pityriasis versicolor;
- Dermatomycoses (including inguinal, smooth skin);
How Triderm is applied?
Triderm cream 15g can be used for the treatment of adults and children over 2 years of age. A thin layer of Tridem cream is applied on the damaged area 2 times daily - morning and evening. Duration of treatment depends on the clinical picture, severity of the disease.
Which are Triderm cream contraindications and cautions?
Triderm cream is contraindicated for use in:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the drug ingredients
- Cutaneous manifestations of syphilis
- Skin reactions after vaccination.
- Children under 2 years of age
Special warnings and precautions:
Systemic absorption of corticosteroids including and bethametasone and local application of gentamicin would be higher if the treatment will be carried out on the large surfaces of the body or if the occlusive dressings are used.
Any side effects occurring common for systemic glucocorticoids such as suppression of adrenal cortex function may also occur and inlocal application of glucocorticosteroids, especially in children. Prolonged local use of antibiotics sometimes can lead to overgrowth of resistant microflora. Do not apply Triderm cream on the open wounds and burns. It is not recommended to use Triderm for the treatment of "diaper" dermatitis Cancellation of Triderm therapy should be carried gradually. Triderm is not intended for opthalmologic application.
Application of pregnancy and lactation:
Safety of topical corticosteroids in pregnant women has not been studied. Thus, the use of Tridem during pregnancy should be avoided. The medication can be applied only in case when benefits to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Triderm cream should not be used during breastfeeding.
Which are Triderm side effects?
Possible Triderm side effects include: itching, irritation, burning sensation, dryness, rash, exudative erythema, urticaria, local edema, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, skin rash (steroid acne), hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, paresthesia.
