Acne is a condition which is caused because of the blockage of the seborrheic gland, which is responsible for the lubrication of the skin by the release of fluid known as sebum. Due to the clog of the outflow of the drainage pathway of the seborrheic gland  there might be accumulation of the sebum (oily substance). This is a perfect growth place for Bacteria known as propionibacterium and causes infection to develop into acne. Whenever any infection occurs, it is the normal reaction of the body to set the inflammatory action, where the defence system of the body is used for against the bacteria. The same occurs in the case of acne , which causes redness and breakage of acne.

Acne can be many types, but a common thing to all of them is the presence of comedones, which are infected and clogged leading to an inflammatory reaction. The anti inflammatory properties of the steroids like clobetasol decreases the inflammation and helps in the treatment of the condition. But at the same time, it can cause change the colour of the skin which might be more problematic comparing to the acne itself. So unless the doctor prescribe, do not use it on your own.

Why Dermovate is not good for that problem routinely?

Dermovate is an ointment manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, which is one renowned pharmaceutical industry in the world The active Pharmaceutical ingredient in Dermovate is Clobetasol. Dermovate is available in the strength of 25 and 100 mg. This is a strong steroid cream and its main intention of treating more devastating skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis.  In fact, some of the Literature, says that dermovate is contraindicated for acne but some doctors prescribe it for acne scars. Do remember that, unless proper and right indication is there (which is usually decided by the physician), using of dermovate on your own in the skin might spoil  your face.

What is Dermovate and how it resolves the problem?

Clobetasol being steroidal in nature will be having anti inflammatory property (Inflammation is a process of redness, warmth and swelling as a reaction to infection). So the drug reduces the redness, decreases the irritation and gives a smooth and comfortable feeling. The drug causes decrease in the migration of the defence cells likes lymphocytes in the site of inflammation. The drug also decreases the itching of the skin, which is known as its antipyretic effect (though this effect, might not be very relevant in the case of acne)

Since dermovate is used in the treatment of severe inflammatory conditions like Psoriasis and lichen planus, its efficacy in terms of relatively moderate inflammation in the case of acne is well expected. But it comes with the cost that on continuous usage of dermovate, there will be  thinning of the skin, along with the development of black lesions on the places that you had acne. In case of acne scars, where there is formation of scars in the place of acne (as a method of natural healing) the usage of dermovate might help in reduction in the formation of acne scars but do remember that a proper physician’s advice is required for its right indication.

Conclusion (Treatment results)?

Though you might notice an improvement in your acne initially, there will be development of black lesion which are more difficult to treat. It is better to avoid dermovate for acne on your own. Please use dermovate, only when and doctor advises to you so (usually for severe acne scars)
